<DeathStar> *allowing Kumen to begin making fossilized items and powerful doublizers in limited quanties; strangely enough, Kumen's defenses and stuff have been amped up lately to become a bit more like the old days to protect the fossils being brought in. However, here on Geyze, it's also effected it a bit as some mages feels like they need the fossils to out perform each other*

<DeathStar> <Lumi> As far as your project - have you run tests to make sure using this spirit fossil is okay?
<DeathStar> <Lumi> We've been having a lot of fights breaking out over mages using these things.
<Alicia> <Ceilidh> "I've done lots of safety tests. I have systems testing and recording to make sure there's not going to be any issues with it... but that's why I'm not just saying that she's ready yet. Just nearly."
<DeathStar> *Sylph floats in having been making food; offering some to Threna*
<DeathStar> <Lumi> Well, let us know if you need anything. If you want more data, we could send some Peacekeepers to the Magi Tower or to Kumen itself.

<DeathStar> *Lumi stands up and steps outside; with summer classes going on, the Academy is not as busy as usual so she scans to see who she can call from the Peacekeepers. Gwen is soon recruited*

<Jackieness> <Lana> *goes to her room to lay down, concluding that she must be working too hard*
<DeathStar> <Lumi> With Kumen being starting up this Spirit Fossil business and trying to keep a strict handle on it - for now at least, Kumen has gotten a little bit more strict in who gets it's hands on it and that makes it pricey as well. Afterward if you have time you should stop by Kumen if you are interested in the spirit fossils. See if you can find anyone else who wants to go with you.

<DeathStar> <Gwen> I-I guess it would also make it harder to find it on a person's body if you did it that way, but it sounds like it could lead to side effects

<Jackieness> <Lana> "We are looking into the ellicit trade of such, yes."

<DeathStar> <Linnet> From what I understand, there's no illict trade going on right now, though I know Ymir is afraid of such a trade occurring in the future.
<DeathStar> <Linnet> She's been working hard to make sure everything is locked down tight; you can check Kumen for the trade aspect.
<DeathStar> <Linnet> But as far as students, I know the students here and at the Academy really like to get their hands on spirit fossils, even though it's been banned for exams
<DeathStar> <Linnet> IT's not even allowed on grounds
<DeathStar> <Gwen> I've seen some spirit fossils on the Academy grounds, since we're not as strict there, due to the fact we dabble our lessons on everything.
<Seraphna> Threna> As I understand it, Mana and Spirit magic often do not mix well.
<Jackieness> <Lana> "Right... dead spirits uagmnting mana seems counterintuitive.""
<DeathStar> <Linnet> Actually, the opposite is true.
<DeathStar> <Linnet> The reason it's coverted is that spirit fossils power up things; including magic
<Jackieness> <Lana> "But why... that is the part that doesn't make any sense to me."
<DeathStar> <Linnet> IT's why mages here want it, to get ahead in tests and on each other. It powers up their magics so much. They fear they can't get ahead without it.
<Alicia> <Sparkling> "... how sad..."
<DeathStar> <Linnet> I can't explain why it effects mages the way it does. You all may not even recall a time when we had to use mana crystals even
<DeathStar> <Linnet> It was a bit before my time too
<Jackieness> <Lana> "Mana crystals?"
<DeathStar> <Linnet> Mana crystals were when you put your magic/mana into a crystal to store it for a time you needed for when you entered areas with no magic/mana. There were apparently places on Kumen that were like that.

<Seraphna> Threna> Most of Kumen.’
<DeathStar> <Linnet> And Spirit Fossils were also a thing that went hand in hand I believe as well.

<DeathStar> <Linnet> The only problems I've noted? The limited supply. Ymir will only be able to find so many worlds that have them - the mages wanting them to boost their magic power. And how they're used
<DeathStar> <Linnet> You're meant to use the fossil in conjecture with your magic - but some of taken to trying to make it last longer and taking it inside their bodies
<Alicia> <Ceilidh> "Well, that's the big one. I'm using one as a magic generator in my... ah, do you know what a reploid is here?"

<DeathStar> <Linnet> If that's the case, I'm guesing it will power it as long as the fossil will last. It will burn through the fossil's spirit power until it needs to be replaced.
<Alicia> <Ceilidh> "And yes, Biotects are close enough that I don't feel bad using that analogy."
<DeathStar> <Linnet> Much like a mage using a fossil to power a spell
<Alicia> <Ceilidh> "... ah. That might be an issue. I may need to find a longer lasting, or at least more renewable power source."

<DeathStar> <Linnet> IT's not quite a core type, no. But if you're just wanting it to move around, you could probably not have it burn it as fast.

<DeathStar> <Gwen> True. So that's why it ws banned here. We need to look into this huffing like Nicolette suggested.
<Alicia> <Ceilidh> "Well, this is to achieve something, and I was planning on enabling spells... though... I don't need masses of power there..."
<Alicia> <Sparkling> "We need to stop people getting overly attached to temporary power! I've... seen where it goes when you... can't let go."

<DeathStar> <Linnet> Well, if you think you might need more fossils for your project, I have some confiscated, but you might need to look for another source

<DeathStar> <Linnet> But one, mage or otherwise, needs to be confident first in them

<Alicia> <Ceilidh> "I'm planning to. I don't know how long it would last but... a limited source is too limited. Lana, would you mind if I used your mana core design?"
<DeathStar> <Gwen> I'm guessing these spirit fossils are capable in doing nearly anything, even outside Mages. <Linnet> They are a source of energy. <Gwen> We should look into who else might be interested in them. But could spirits use these?

<Jackieness> <Lana> "...ahhh...if you can manage to scale it down... I cna make it big to move somethign big, but having problem makign it small..."
<Alicia> <Ceilidh> "I can possibly install some mana crystals too for emergency supplies. Temporary exhaustion is a lot different than running out of power forever."
<Alicia> <Ceilidh> "...or... I got it! I don't like the idea of having to recharge frequently, but being able to recharge is enough to make it work."

<DeathStar> <Linnet> I know once they're out of school I would not mind mages using them but they need to get the basics of magic done first and have a need or a cause to use the fossils.

<Alicia> <Sparkling> "Relying too much on things like that... isn't a good idea."
<DeathStar> <Linnet> From the reports I read, it was considered to be magic burner fuel almost.
<Alicia> <Ceilidh> "It's a huge flaw for any device you intend to keep running long term... like biotects, reploids and the like. Once they're gone, they're gone."
<Jackieness> <Lana> "A limited resource with a short shelf life."
<Alicia> <Ceilidh> "They're very good for accomplishing a specific thing right now, but in most cases, that's wasteful."
<DeathStar> <Linnet> Well, to that I can't answer; I can only answer to the fossil being used for what it was intended for. Mages using it for powering up magic. Though there are reports that it could be used to power up other abilities, I can't attest to that.
<DeathStar> <Linnet> If you want to slot it into a machine, that likely is not a type of ability it can do - long term
<Jackieness> <Lana> "Also...they are literally digging up the graves of sentients to get these things!"
<Alicia> <Ceilidh> "Right. Last thing we want is... to get reliant, then run out."

<DeathStar> <Linnet> Well, you should speak to Macross and Ymir about that

They were using their parents to buy it and trying to get around the Magi Tower ban. So we're being stricter with our screening by checking the family of who is ordering the fossil, especially with limited numbers.
