<DeathStar> 6* The past few days, Taiga's team has been doing their own investigations to find the perfect business target to go after to look for the world with the true nature of the Cartel and begin their investigations there (cont)
<DeathStar> 6* The problem is they don't know the location and are hoping one of the shadier businesses can lead them to it. Most of the team has been hitting bars to talk to drunk employees while Erica and Jelly are preparing to find the right business to sell Jelly's body to. Right now they are briefly at the hotel resting and looking over notes
<Sathen> *Jelly has been enjoying his revenge but studying some of the corporate targets, all their public information so he doesn't attract undo attention by prematurely hacking anything.

<DeathStar> <Yuki> The Cartel is divided into 10 families - which I believe they are made up of members of the original Cartel leaders. Odin, Loki, Shiva. You know. Those creeps who named themselves after norse gods
<Sara> <Erica> Man, they think they're some kind of nobility. That's gross.
<DeathStar> <Yuki> While they still use those names, it seems the Cartel Houses are highly likely belong to them
<Seraphna> Cookie> Isn't Shiva a Hindu God?
<Jackieness> <Airym> "They would be the most logical targets for the shapeshifters to replace."
<DeathStar> <Yuki> Is it? Well, the Cartel ain't so smart then

<ChadWinters> <Cel> Because they're a hub for goods and services, good and bad.

<DeathStar> <Yuki> Anyway, it seems that some of these businesses over the planet city belongs to each of them, though not all of them are that important. Some are just businesses like stock stuff
<Sathen> *Jelly just sits, waiting for the go ahead of their plan*
<DeathStar> <Yuki> Others are weapon manufacturing, but each of the families has a presence here
<DeathStar> <Yuki> Outside the 10 families, based on Jelly's research there's 5 other corportions that have major power it looks like. Like the one that magical girl hit. They have 2 more locations on the planet
<DeathStar> <Yuki> There is also a ship business that is growing and doing well. And a new business that is anaylzing magic, or so it claims
<DeathStar> *she sits back. Taiga sips her drink*
<DeathStar> <Taiga> So go after one of the families, or go after a corporation that is up and coming
<Seraphna> Cookie> This is all starting to seem like Deja Vu.

<Jackieness> <Airym> "Fascinating. I wonder why she would target an entity unaffiliated with the political leadership."
<ChadWinters> <Cel> Going after a family has the most risk. There's 10 of them and thats if we hit the right one. One of the 5 major corps has better odds.
<Seraphna> Cookie> I'm reminded a lot about how Kumen was structured as a planet all of a sudden.
<Sathen> *Jelly looks to Erica, shrugging a bit* Long established corporations are likely more set with their security, a newer company wouldn't have as much capital to spend on it.

<Sara> <Erica> I mean, it's easy to say so, but...
<Sara> <Erica> At the same time, I still feel like the Cartel themselves are just going to get worse if left alone.
<Jackieness> <Airym> "The Cartel would be Kumen's structure exploded across multiple systems."

<Xanatos`> <Pepper> How sketchy are these families? Maybe they don't like these independent companies?

<Sara> <Erica> Well, it's my own personal opinion, but what do you think, Yu?
<DeathStar> *Yuki peers down* Well. We would likely need to talk to someone who knows the families better than we do. <Taiga> From what I remember during my days
<Jackieness> <Airym> "The Suisen Empire along with the othe rmajor powers traditionally contained the Cartel's activities. However, the influece of the shapeshifters has upended the balance in the galaxy."
<DeathStar> <Taiga> The Cartel has done a lot of shady stuff and been in a major Earth War once, poisoning the Dragoons. But that war was also brought about by Earth
<DeathStar> <Taiga> The Cartel just fought underhandedly
<Sathen> Jelly> You thinking we should approach a Family business and see if they want some help to mess with one of these new companies?
<ChadWinters> <Durt> War doesn't always have rules.
<DeathStar> <Taiga> *she peers at the families* I think we might learn more about the families in the underbelly as you all call it. No doubt that is where many of their operations are at
<DeathStar> <Taiga> So if we target a weaker family we might could learn about how to get there
<DeathStar> <Taiga> If that is what you are thinking, Erica
<DeathStar> *she refuses to peer at Erica's face*
<DeathStar> *Taiga spreads her hands out* From what I can tell about the Cartel
<Sara> <Erica> Something like that. We are going to have a lot to worry about when it comes to the cartel. While magical analysis is a risk to our magical girl friend, these smaller businesses are less likely to become a large threat in the short term, whereas if they were taken down, the cartel would fill in the gap and become even more of an issue.
<Xanatos`> <Pepper> Underbelly 'as we call it'. She made up term! 6* She whispers to Cookie.
<DeathStar> <Taiga> The Cartel likely began due to the 10 family leaders. And from their they began their pirate operations taking over this part of the galaxy and ruling it like thugs
<DeathStar> <Taiga> And then later on began to turn it into a legit operation front
<ChadWinters> 6Cel looks at Erica. 1"If the small businessses are opening, it's because the Cartel allow it.
<DeathStar> <Taiga> Think mafia
<Sathen> Jelly> It's smart, allow a few non-affiliated companies to start up to provide legitimate cover and appear that they're playing nice.
<Sara> <Erica> Hey, I'm not of the belief that these guys can reform, as much as I prefer to handle things politically when possible. But if we cut off some small companies, what good does it really do us?
<Sara> <Erica> They'll just replace those.
<DeathStar> <Yuki> Erica is right. <Taiga> True. And if shapeshifters are in charge of the leaders now
<DeathStar> <Taiga> They are likely going to revert to their old ways
<ChadWinters> 6Cel looks at Erica oddly. 1"So wait you want to overthrow the Cartel?"
<DeathStar> <Taiga> And become more corrupt
<DeathStar> <Yuki> That would be something.
<DeathStar> <Yuki> No one has managed that
<Sara> <Erica> Overthrow them? Heh, no. But it's hard to deny that they're one of our major threats, along with shitheads like Cobalt.
<DeathStar> <Taiga> And you'll throw this area of the galaxy into chaos probably. *she rises* We'll go after a family business. *she eyes the list*
<ChadWinters> <Cel> If they've been replaced by the shapeshifters, then yeah it's our job to get rid of them. But destabilizing an entire system of planets, that's not what we signed up to do.
<Jackieness> <Airym> "One would have to eliminate all oten families simultaneously. The power vaccuum could be dangerous though."
<DeathStar> <Taiga> We'll go after this one here. *she taps* They are into security on this planet
<Jackieness> <Airym> A" security specialist is a logicla choice."
<Seraphna> * Si nods, as if really understanding anything past, "This is the butt we kick."
<DeathStar> <Taiga> *she turns to the bar people* You all will hit the bars and try to find employees to get close to tonight
<Sara> <Erica> I know. I never said anything about that. But we can get them back to what they were before, and to draw out the shapeshifters, we will have to hit them.
<ChadWinters> <Cel> Especially if you don't like the way they run themselves.

<Sathen> *Jelly muses for a bit as he looks at it* It'll be a bit harder to crack their security but it's doable.

<DeathStar> *they are led to the 134th floor, where a plain gray room, small, with huge desk and an older man is sitting behind it*
<Sathen> *Jelly eyes the secretary, biting his lip a bit to keep from making any comments as he follows along*

<Sathen> *Jelly looks at it for a moment before raising his datapad to scan it quickly before starting his hack, a small smile on his face*

<Sathen> *Jelly peers at his own datapad to see what data was on the one he just hacked* Pretty easy test...not much in terms of security on it to begin with.
<Sara> <Erica> Heh, I think it was just the warm-up.
<Sathen> *Jelly bites his lip again as he tries to not stare at the secretary, muttering something to himself before sitting to start the hacks on the other datapads first*
<DeathStar> *Jelly would see some complicated stuff, and she walks by glancing at Jelly's datapad on ehr way out before he starts*

<DeathStar> <Older Man> If you get the job, my secretary will contact you. *she smiles and moves to lead them back out of the building*
<Sathen> Jelly> By the way, you'll need an encryption algorithm that uses a quantum cypher on a 2048-byte level for some of that data...

<DeathStar> <Older Man> *he studies Jelly* Miss Tessmocker. *she nods and soon the three find themselves outside*

<Sathen> *Jelly just looks to Erica* What? You think I re-locked it or something? Just a quick analysis of some of the base level coding on them suggested additional encryption to understand the information inside it.

<Sara> <Erica> They didn't seem happy, Jel. I get the feeling it was something else.
<Sathen> Jelly> Of course it was something else, those belonged to some of their competitors.
<DeathStar> *Yuki sighs* I hope they don't bad mouth us to others. Wait, that will reveal them to others
<Sara> <Erica> In any case, that plan didn't work out. Guess we have to keep Jelly.
<Sathen> Jelly> Yep, they can't discuss it to others because that would mean they have to admit to having illegally obtained information in the first place.
<Sathen> Jelly> Too bad I didn't copy any of it, would like to see what they had on those to begin with...

<Sathen> Jelly> My comment was for the data that was on the locked terminal, to tell them of the scrambled data that would need additional work. Not that I can't do it...And actually, those systems had a copy-protection protocol.

<Sathen> Jelly> Accessing the data isn't a problem, copying it even once deletes it from the system entirely and the protocol is part of the data in the first place so it will get copied along with it...would take a bit of time to separate it from the data they want.

<Seraphna> * Si works on charming one of the more important looking ones while Cookie mostly keeps her efforts on reading minds that the others keep busy or get drunker than normal.

<DeathStar> 6* This place is mostly about ships and construction. A male secretary leads them up to a woman this time, who looks them over

<DeathStar> *she leans back, looking about Erica's age*
<Sathen> *Jelly follows behind Erica and Yuki, muttering to himself it seems as they walk and stopping entirely when they come in the room*

<Sara> <Erica> They are able to test securities and make recommendations. It takes a hacker to protect from other hackers. They're the only ones who can find holes. And if people break in, they'll get access to your confidential plans and information. Having a hacker under your own employment can protect you from the chances of that ever happening.
<Sara> * Erica takes the 'white hat' approach this time, considering the situation
<DeathStar> <Woman> I suppose. *she taps the air and her computer terminal descends from the ceiling* Here, cutie. Show me what you can do
<DeathStar> *she scoots back and lets Jelly mess with her terminal, peering at his ass*

<Sara> <Erica> <Someone actually finds that attractive?...>
<Sathen> *Jelly eyes it for a moment before approaching the terminal, tapping away at it as his tail starts to sway happily*

<Sathen> *Jelly analyzes the network firewalls for a bit before pulling out his datapad and making a few notes* So your firewall is nice and all for most brute-force and denial of service attacks. Even some of your run of the mill hack for enjoyment types would get stopped.

<DeathStar> <Woman> Just business hackers stealing files
<DeathStar> <Woman> Or copying them
<Sara> <Erica> <I guess I have to keep an eye out... gross.>
<Sathen> Jelly> But you have a few loopholes in open ports that have been hidden by programmers and a backdoor that has a medium level encryption that's been used...*looks at it again* seven times.
<DeathStar> <Woman> I see. Well this is just a virtual machine to trick you. *pauses* Kidding. I just heard that term once and wanted to use it. So how much do you charge?
<Sathen> *Jelly holds his datapad out to the side, his tail swishing more* I made note of the holes as well as recommendations for fixing them.
<DeathStar> *she gets up and begins to contact her secretary*
