Chapter 3: Psycho War

Verse 1, S.1: Session 69: Psycho Screening

9.22.5990
Radio City Theatre - Kumen Tech City
Psycho Passes have just been installed as an add-on to the surveillance cameras, and there’s some concern about the system already; but regardless the team has concerns of their own to deal with. Top priority is getting some additional tech for upgrades to the buildings security, leading the list of possible sources is a Corporation with over a dozen resource centers throughout the middle district; so the team heads out for Fauna Haven intending to use it as a temporary base while they survey the various centers.

9.27.5990
With almost five days of surveillance completed, their target has been decided; instead of breaching an actual resource center they will go after one of their transport vehicles, the problem with this is the physical security of the vehicle itself and any attempted calls for assistance. So Otto is decided as the sharpshooter on this mission, his goal to destroy the vehicles axels and keep it from going further than they want it to; and Asarar and Jelly will hack into the local communications and prevent any security requests.

With Otto taking cover in bushes for concealment, Asarar and Jelly head underground to do their hacking; Wolfe however does his best at the park next to their planned heist point to gather the children and lead them away Pied Piper style while transformed into his beast mode. Even though his first shot misses, Otto is able to disable the truck; Jelly dispersing the suspicious network security avatars looking for Asarar’s intrusion into the Communications systems. While Luci and Max traumatize the driver and his passenger in the cab of the truck, Asarar, Kira, Chelsea and Jelly secure bags full of equipment and tech that will be useful to them.

Returning to their temporary hideout with Hood at Fauna Haven they relax for a couple of days (to Max’s dismay) in order to keep from raising suspicion when they return, talking amongst themselves, enjoying the relaxing and open atmosphere among the Fauna’s; even making a couple of interesting friends among the crew and the inhabitants.

Verse 2, S.2: Session 70: 3 Months Ago - Club

7.1.5990
Radio City Theatre - Kumen Tech City
In the wake of Asarar’s kidnapping and being turned into a magic-capable Biotect Mark 9, she’s been tending her wounds and rebuilding her strength and stamina; which she is finally ready to test out on a little field trip, taking the team along on a ‘walk’ to Quad 6 and checking in with an information broker there. The news is mixed; while Macross is licking their own wounds and has no idea where Asarar and Co. are located, they have relocated Maxwell Terran, his wife and his daughter while beefing up their own security forces. Word is they may have also made a few contracts with independent resources in order to track Asarar down, a prospect that may pose problematic in the future.

7.28.5990 & 8.6.5990
The crew has been taking it easy, continuing their search for Ylva’s mother and ‘sister’ Ymir; but they also take this opportunity to celebrate when the chance rears its head, Luci’s birthday and then a week later it is Max’s. They are unfortunately crashed by Riki tripping over the decorations, but fun is had by all and a few gifts are given.

8.19.5990
The crew gets a lead on Maxwell Terran’s possible location, more-so interested in Ylva’s mother and sister; they head out in an armor reinforced limo that was procured somewhere and wearing clothing that is suitable for being on the top level of the city. Upon their arrival they note the presence of over a dozen security officers and a gated mansion, their only option for entry is to smash the gates while Otto attempts to provide supporting fire if it’s needed. The run-of-the-mill security is no match for the crew members, making their way inside not to find Maxwell Terran, Ymir and her mother, but a cryogenic laboratory where there are stored several women; whom according to data and notes nearby were tested for the Mark 9 Project.

Ripping away a page marked with ‘pass’, Asarar starts the sequence to awaken the women before leaving. However they must contend with armed and armored Corporate Security Police before they can make good their escape.

8.30.5990
With things being relatively quiet for the past few weeks and only a couple of small jobs in the meantime, the crew is returning one night to find the young Ortrara having to face down would-be rapists. With unseen before tenacity Chelsea ‘persuades’ them to leave the poor Lillen alone while Luci and Wolfe befriend the girl and get her to come back to the Club.

Verse 3, S.3 Session 71: Corporate Closing In

10.5.5990
Radio City Theatre - Kumen Tech City
With the recent introduction of the ‘Psycho Pass’ System augmenting the video surveillance cameras in the Slums, traversing the streets is becoming harder and harder for people; using equipment and tech appropriated in a previous job, Asarar has beefed up the security for their headquarters, but the underlying problem still exists, finding an easier way to get around. Chelsea meanwhile has been strangely missing for the past few days, no indication where she may have gone. It is concluded that attempting to move through the Net may be easier, something that none of the team has apparently done before; so Asarar and Luci gear up and head into the Net-World, Jelly and Kira remaining at the office to keep an eye out on things there. Jelly working on coordinating a Runner-Wide attack on the Psyco Pass Departments servers to take it down.

Asarar and Luci arrive in the Net World to the appearance of a city that is both familiar and alien; buildings that look like their real-world selves as well as others that resemble castles, coding and firewalls seeming to illuminate buildings in a sort of glow. One building in particular glows brightly, the one that houses the Psycho Pass databases; as they are considering things Asarar is struck in the back, her coat dissolving around her. The attackers, several at least, seem to be after Asarar for some reason; calling her a rookie to the Net and to surrender to them, every shot that rings out destroys part of the data that is the cornerstone of the Net. Oddly though, where the shots impact terrain or buildings, holes appear in the real world.

Instead of standing ground and fighting, Luci and Asarar decide that discretion is the better path in this situation and flee; dodging deletion rounds and obstacles, they make their way into the sewer system while discussing who their attackers may be. Progressing through the sewers takes longer than they would expect, but they finally come to a broken ladder leading up, Luci using a bit of her Dragoon strength while she jumps to dislodge the manhole cover before getting Asarar up and returning to the safety of the Club. They aren’t without injury however; Asarar’s back has been severly burned and her right hand almost ‘deleted’ from a second blast and unusable. As the Cypher team goes to see about medical assistance for their leader they are happy to welcome back Chelsea who was almost tagged by the Psycho Pass system and arrested, her disappearance due to looking for Bonnie.

10.7.5990
While Asarar recovers from her injuries and watches, Holovid News reports a stunning move by three of the Cities Corporations; Macross, Star Corp and one other have all banded together to create their own Police force, their own space vessels and imply continuation of the Mark 9 Biotect project as well as Fauna developments. The police and creation of space vessels previously been under the direct control of CoreSector; this leads the Cypher group to think that the 3 Corporations are trying to depose CoreSector. They are left wondering whether they should remain neutral in this matter or offer their assistance to the President and fight a man whom they do not trust at all, the Macross CEO Maxwell Terran.

Verse 4, S.4 Session 72: Psycho Pass

10.10.5990
Radio City Theatre - Kumen Tech City
Recent developments have seen the return of the Aquarius to Kumen space, and its crew reuniting with Yuki after her furlough, the Cyphers and Aquarius Crew relax and enjoy making new acquaintances at the Bar over several days. Yuki actually realizing Wolfe is her older brother, Yuki and Erica as well as Cookie and Little becoming closer. However Asarar is troubled by the Corporations direction in the Slums and the Psycho-Pass systems and hoping that the members of the Aquarius Crew could be motivated into getting a meeting set up. She leaves this in the hands of Chelsea and Kira while she heads out with Luci to see about a matter; Jelly remaining in the office to monitor net-security and look up technical data on cybernetics.

Chelsea approaches Little, whom she idolizes being the Engineer for the Aquarius, and begins making small talk; asking about the ship, what Engineers drink, what she has worked on before, etc. As the conversation progresses other members of the Aquarius crew appear to enjoy themselves; Denise literally drooling over Wolfe’s strip-routine, Yuki and Erica sharing a banana split as well as a ‘pink drink’, Cookie dancing sexily for Little to Chelsea’s embarrassment, and Kaylin getting into a Sniper Show-down with Otto (minus the actual shooting).

Meanwhile, Asarar and Luci plant some information about Posco and the Psycho-Pass system into the Quad 5 Police station servers and decide to tail the Quad Police Chief and William Tell to a meeting in an off-grid section of the warehouse district, where they’re met by a suspicious 3rd party. The Chief, Tell and their 3rd Party (Samson?) discuss the fact that the corporations are trying to roll the Psycho Pass Forces into the Police Forces and at the same time cut back funding to the Police. CoreSector is trying to manage things where it can and investigate at the same time; but the question on Asarar’s mind is ‘do they have the right resources?’.

When Asarar and Luci return to the Club, there’s already an offer to bring Chelsea through on an engineering tour; and a promise from Erica to see about a meeting for Kira with somebody in the ‘higher ups’. There isn’t much left for them at this point but to wait while the information they planted at the Police Station is sorted through and Asarar’s hand is fixed with the use of Jelly’s schematics and the combined skills of Chelsea and a doctor they keep around the Club.
