Chapter 2: The Northern War

Verse 1, S.1: Session 65: The Amazons Strike Back

9.20.5990
Tower - Old Magi Ruins
The unit has been busy over the past three months, trying to deal with the ongoing Northern Conflict and the fact that several Kingdoms are taking advantage of it to push their own agendas. With only a bit of downtime Unit 6 has returned to check on the progress of the restoration of the Tower and the surrounding village; the Mage Tamae having worked hard and built up a great deal, as well as learned many things. Having disabled the Hapian connection point for the Teleportation pad by Shion, who is currently co-captaining the group, and along with Miyuki decide to head to the Summoni Capital to ask some questions there. Among them: finding out which Great Spirit invested power into some of the Magi equipment for the creation of Familiars and Gladius.

9.22.5990
Arriving at the Summoni Capital the Unit splits itself; Shion, Gwen, Vyvy, Liana and Mykel going to meet with Kalam while Miyuki, Sasha, Ceilia and Alita go to the Library. Both groups are interested in the Spirit Undine, since she is closely tied to life being the spirit of water; and their questions and searches through books reflect this. However there are setbacks; the Summoner’s do not have detailed records of the Magi’s dealings with Spirits noting several times that the Magi are ‘secretive’, and Vyvy’s enthusiasm at meeting Kalam, who is rumored to be the strongest Dragoon, cannot be curbed. With very few answers or insights into Undine, the Unit heads to Pyhrric to check on things there; leaving Vyvy to talk with Kalam and possibly begin training under her.

9.30.5990
Arriving in Phyrric below the shrine entrance to Salamander and on the edge of the city, the Unit is startled to realize that something is wrong; Legionaires are swarming through the streets looking for ‘the bastard’. Fearing that things are not what they seem, Miyuki polymorphs Sasha, Alita, Ceilia, Liana, Mykel and herself into a family of foxes; which would have been perfect except for one legionaires kick to Mykel-fox to get him out of the way. While Miyuki and Ceilia perform foxy attacks on the offender, Alita checks on Mykel, and Liana looks about in confusion, Vyvy appears above along with Salamander and unknowingly gives her teammates a bath. It becomes apparent though that the target of the Legionaire’s search is none other than the Rogue Magi whom the Unit had turned over previously.

This realization is disturbed by a sight unseen in the city, a giant tidal wave of water slams into the Volcano and sends Salamander into over-whelming pain. Amazons by the scores sweep into the city on attack, collecting women and men as they can and sparing little time in their headlong rush. Summoning Celsius and Sylph, the unit attempts to minimize injuries and protect the seriously weakened Salamander; Celsius freezing the first tidal wave before she has to leave, Sylph flitting about and using wind to knock Amazonian attackers from their mounts and Rune-casters from their preparations for unleashing a second watery attack on the volcano. Kaiser Regent Jules riding forth and furious at this attack, mustering his forces and wading into the fray to route the Amazonian attackers.

Verse 2, S.2: Session 66: 3 Months Ago - Academy

7.1.5990
Unit 6 Meeting Room - The Academy
A new conflict between the Amazons and the Republic has just begun, Unit 6 has been walking a tight-rope ever since, unsure whether they would continue together or if they would be split up. That decision has yet to be made though, yet the unit is being given an opportunity to prove itself; to investigate two potential issues that have cropped up recently, the Hapians kicking out the Kumen miners and increasing their own excavation of spirit fossils, or the Naturalists seeming to recruit individuals together for some unknown reason.

The mining it is decided, while important, doesn’t pose as significant a threat for peace as does the Naturalist recruitment of individuals for an unknown reason; so in lieu of using at flying carriage, the unit will use traditional transportation (and Naturalist clothing to disguise themselves) to return to the grasslands and seek information on why people are being gathered together, where, and hopefully find out what is planned.

7.16.5990 - 8.4.5990
Grasslands - Naturalist Territory

After arriving in the Naturalists territory, Unit 6 comes to a small village where it’s immediately apparent that Hapians are not welcome, guards relaxing when they see Alita or Ceilia are members of the group. Inside the village proper they see many things they are unaccustomed to, the sight of spirits taking control of willing bodies first among them. However they are unable to watch this for long, they must press further into the territory in order to find the recruiters; whom they get a good lead on from a young girl, the Heroes of the Realm or Protectors of Geyze, who camp down river of a second village.

They wait at the second village, biding their time by assisting the locals with working the fields, before their targets arrive on the river; using tricks to create fog around their skiff, and never letting them get too much of a lead, they’re able to follow the “Protectors” to their encampment. There they find a rather remarkable sight, hundreds of Naturalists are gathered in the marshlands here carrying weapons and making apparent plans, most notable though is the presence of high-tech weaponry that shouldn’t be here.

Taking photos and gathering the information they came for, they quickly summon Celsius and return to the Academy; leaving behind a breast-obsessed slime wantonly quivering for one of the ladies.

Verse 3, S.3 Session 67: The Kaiser Election

Location: Planet Geyze
Date: 10.5.5990 - 10.7.5990
The members of Unit 6 head out from the Academy along with Shion and Miyuki, their destination is the Daemon Capital to see Empress Neophyx and the slowly recovering Kaiser Julius. With Shion at the controls of the flying carriage they make excellent time to the capital, albeit with several sets of week knees and one or two lost lunches due to the young kitsune’s dare-devilish driving / flying.

They are brought before the Daemon Empress and her younger sisters, Miyuki immediately beginning to bestow pleasantries and affections on Neophyx, even hooking arms with the girl as they make their way into a VIP Guest wing of the palace. Upon their arrival at the Kaisers’ room where he has been recovering from the attempt on his life and poisoning, they encounter the Kaisers eldest son Jules. He is immediately on edge at the arrival of visitors but respects the authority of Neophyx since they are within her palace and escorting the Academy team; he recognizes both Commodus and Mykel, greeting them by name.

As discussions begin with the Kaiser, the topic of the new Republic and Amazonian War is brought up, a subject that Jules vehemently defends and even goes so far as to use as a reason for his father to step down and proclaim him as the new Kaiser. The Kaiser replies to this by stating that Jules is not the only potential heir, a topic that the majority of the team realizes they cannot take part in, only members of the Guyus family can join.

Both Liana and Ceilia prod Mykel forward into this conversation; bringing the debate to a head between two young men with seemingly very passionate views. Jules as the eldest son defending the war as the will of the people to deter any future hostilities and Mykel as a blood relation arguing that regardless of the will, the wisest course is peace; the Kaiser sits and listens while Miyuki gives him some small comfort. The final statement of the debate before Jules leaves the room is that peace isn’t the obligation of a single entity such as the Academy, but is the obligation of rulers and mediators alike. With Jules’ departure Mykel falls silent, allowing the Kaiser to inquire about his younger son Hapes and his location which Shion provides. Miyuki sends the team out so she can talk with the Kaiser privately concerning the possible courses.

The team talks amongst themselves in the hallway, considering alternatives to the war; offering suggestions such as Mykel vying for the position of Kaiser, Hapes possible claim, dealing with the Rogue Magi in their entirety, as well as the pros and cons of each. Miyuki speaks privately with Jules as the team takes a small break at Rains mansion, meeting back up at a luxurious room in the Palace where plans are made to deal with two issues simultaneously; Shion will travel to the Hapian Capital to deal with the Mining and Naturalist issue there while Miyuki and the team will head north to the Amazon Capital and attempt to negotiate with Gwen & Qui’s mother the Queen. Meanwhile at the Academy, it is found that Spira has been subject to some rather archaic magics and slain the assassin priestess whom Vyvy had previously subdued.

Verse 4, S.4 Session 68: The Southern War?!

10.5.5990
Rain’s Mansion - Daemon Capital
With Miyuki having returned to the Academy to deal with the matter of the Priestesses death at the hands of Spira, and Shion having left to attend to the impending hostilities between the Hapian / Naturalist factions, the team is left to deal with the Amazonians as they see fit. With Commodus electing to stay behind at Rains to prevent a possible conflict, and Qui maintaining her control, the team transports to the Amazonian Capital with the assistance of Celsius. Encountering a barrier around the city, they are met by Amazonian warriors who immediately try to capture Mykel, to both Ceilia’s and Alita’s disapproval.

When Qui steps forward into view the warriors toe the line and escort the team to Themyscria, where they observe some concerning problems with Undine’s waters and guards. When they’re brought before Matriarch Gweneve Yi, Qui’s mother; no time is wasted in confronting her with a fear, Undine is weak due to some circumstance. Seeing the past issues that some Greater Spirits have had, it is felt by many of the team that this may be an opportunity for them to gain some small semblance of favor with the Amazons; they offer to assist Undine and help her return to health. Even with at least one of the Matron’s voicing objection, the Queen agrees to let them attempt to help; ordering her honor guard to escort the team while Qui stays to catch up with her mother.

Upon meeting Undine, their fears are quickly cemented as one of the guards relates how the Great Spirit has become ill; a Legionaire having poured pollutants into her waters, and Kito confirms for the unit that these smell similar to Kumen Waste By-Products and not an actual poison. While there is some dissent about whether it may have actually been a Legionaire, the overall consensus is that to help Undine they need to remove the water; Undine agrees with this, but notes that should they be able to purify the water it may prove useful to them in the future. As a parting gesture she bestows upon them a gift of her own mark, allowing them to call upon her a limited number of times; provided she is able to rest sufficiently.

With the assistance of Celsius, and offering up their own mana for her to use, they are able to freeze the entirety of the lake and transport it to the Kumen Spaceport in hopes of utilizing the purification equipment there. With only a bit of shock and fear sweeping through bystanders, they’re able to safely bring the frozen lake to ground and begin the process of purification.
