Chapter 2: Remnants

Verse 1, S.1: Session 79: Yuki Rides the Captain (To Find the Shards)!

The Aquarius - 1.3.5991 CE
The Aquarius has had over a month of downtime between orbiting both Kumen and Geyze, that time has been used well and the ship is fully repaired and even boasts a recent addition of a small planetary exploration vessel without a name. Several ideas are suggested before the name Virgo is affirmed. Meanwhile the CoreSec Presidents maid Sen has made her way to the Aquarius in preparation for relaying the crew’s newest orders. With everybody gathered, Sen delivers the Presidents decree; to head out into the vastness of the Delta Quadrant, visit the neighboring planets and expand the relations and influence of the Kumen Colony. She has also brought something that the Aquarius is in dire need of, a replacement Tech-Spirit. Which many of the crew immediately recognize needs to be protected from Gor’s ‘pelvic sorcery’ as Cookie puts it.

Yuki decides that this mission is a perfect opportunity to search for Centerpoint Shards, which Airym has already developed a sensor profile that will scan for specific energy signatures. While in orbit they do a scan of Kumen itself, but several areas are blocked from the scan; prompting Yuki to call down to her cousin Wolfe and offer up a job for the Tech Group, to search the areas on Kumen that couldn’t be scanned for centerpoint shards. Wolfe agreeing to bring it up to Asarar and the rest of the group.

While this is going on, there’s a slight bit of controversy over who’s actually older; and by just how much…Yuki realizing she had missed her 20th birthday, Kaylin commenting about being alive or online for only 5, and Cookie frowning and saying she’s only 7 years older than Yuki now. Kitty produces a small gift for Yuki and they all head up to the bridge where they encounter somebody long missing from the ship…Samson. He has returned to resume his duties and assist the crew; taking over his old quarters once again and giving Erica a gift (something that Erica, Yuki and Sha may enjoy later on).

With little worry about their immediate destination, the Crew sets out into space; jumping to Light Speed and away from their home. Several hours are expected before their arrival at the closest populated system, the crew heads to the Officer’s Mess to enjoy a dinner provided by Denise...lasagna (both with and without meat for the vegetarians like Gor), and for dessert Strawberry Shortcake. Partway through dinner Kitty, after her sixth serving, asks for some steaks...rare; when Denise returns with them, Kitty rewards her with a nice deep kiss which astonishes many present.

Upon leaving Light Speed the vessel is floating in space over a Ske’Ral Aquatic World; their arrival prompts a spacestation in orbit to contact them, and with some verbal diplomacy (and potentially using words not known in Ske’ral), it is agreed that the crew can visit the planet for scientific and cultural talks between them. The meeting is set to take place in 12 hours on one of the geographic features of the planet.

While the crew prepares Yuki learns an unfortunate lesson, that Samson has indeed reclaimed his quarters; she ends up hanging upside down from simple wire traps just inside the doorway of the room. It takes Kitty, Erica and Cookie to get the poor girl down and moved over into Erica’s quarters. And Cookie bemoans that she is out in the cold now, before she is reminded that she can bunk with her wife Little now.

Verse 2, S.2: Session 80: The Holy Order

The Academy - 1.4.5991
With the New Year over, the Academy is seeing a few changes; Miyuki has handed the reigns of leadership to Shion in order to lessen the stresses put upon her during pregnancy, Shion has designed and ordered new uniforms for all of the Academy and the younger sibling of Empress Neophyx, Karen, has been enrolled.

The unit members are slowly getting used to the new uniforms, though not all are completely pleased and decide to make their own minor modifications, when Shion arrives bearing news. The unit will be receiving a new assignment shortly while Shion heads out to investigate a Cave which may hold the means to resurrecting Shade. Karen is hanging around with the Unit and is even asked why she’s present, responding “You are suppose to be the best. Naturally I will join the best.” Shion announces as well that the Units will be transitioning towards a point-based system of some sorts for annual awards.

The camaraderie is broken however when a Hapian Holy Knight arrives along with several fellows, demanding that Celes be turned over to them for escort back to her mother the Empress and the birth of her child. Shion, as the acting Headmistress, flatly refuses the Knight’s request; instead informing the Knight that the Academy is sovereign territory and Celes has been granted sanctuary there. Before leaving the Knight issues a final warning that "if you do not turn over what belongs to us, we will justly come back in full force."

Preparations are immediately started to re-power the Academy’s shield using Centerpoint fragments, while the members of Unit 6 are called up to speak with Shion; here they’re informed of the issue and told to escort Celes to the Magi Tower and once there to power up its’ defenses as well. The plan is to guard Celes for the coming month until she gives birth; and once she has she can decide further what she wants to do. In private, it is suggested to be ready to destroy the transportation device should there be any unexpected visitors attempting to come through.

As the unit prepares, Miyuki decides that she will be going along with them, so as to give birth to her litter along with Isis who will go with to oversee. With Karen in tow, the unit makes their way to the transportation facility while the Holy Knights prepare to assault the Academy, two Units being dispatched to head them off and ensure Unit 6 along with Celes, Miyuki and Isis have time to get out. Kasha decides to stay at the Academy however, to ensure that Shion has enough ‘uumph’ to deal with the Hapians.

Upon their arrival, the Unit immediately sets to the task of settling back into occupancy of the Tower that they had brought back to life; Commodus taking the first of many round-the-clock shifts watching over the Transportation pad and Communications device while others begin unpacking and settling in the soon to be mothers.

Verse 3, S.3 Session 81: What Lies Beneath

1.6.5991
The Club – Kumen
The Tech Crew is relaxing in the club; Max and Luci teasing each other while planning for their upcoming wedding, Chelsea having finished a new battery pack for Cam, Jelly tinkering with coding, and Otto musing about potential contracts while Asarar sits in a nice dress and considers new jobs for them to do. There’s still apparent tension between Kira and Asarar, though there seems to be something off with Asarar who doesn’t act like her usual self; however a job is finally decided on, to head through the Net and attack one of the Corporations who are storing Geyze minerals and steal the material.

Asarar, Kira, Luci, Max, Otto, Chelsea and Jelly head upstairs after changing out to their ‘work clothes’ and step onto the Net Transition Platform, shifting over to the VR Reality. As they gather and clamber into a vehicle, the crew considers the last excursion into the net; Chelsea trying to keep an eye out for signs of trouble as they go. Jelly making commentary as they go prompting the decision that a translator needs to be made for him at some point; not to mention the revelation that it was the Choir Breakers who had attacked Asarar and Luci on their previous trip into the Net.

They stop mid-way beneath a bridge to investigate a symbol ‘hacked’ into the Net structure, appearing as a symbol of Truth. Several members step out to touch the symbol to see what it shows; and as they consider its meaning a rocket is launched at them, destroying their car but not before Ymir is pulled out having taken a nap there. Otto immediately changing over to start sniping at the Rocketer while others seek cover and wish for weapons similar to their attackers and armor that would stop the disrupter blasts. Seeking refuge in a set of sewer tunnels for a temporary reprieve, Asarar shows her usual tactical nature…but seems to be unaware of the exact details of what has brought them to this point.

After a quick brief, Kira is sent with several packs of C4 to ambush their attackers from above while the rest of the crew travels through the tunnels; after a couple minutes encountering a group of their aggressors, who are the unfortunate victims of Kira above who uses the C4 to devastating effect. Several of the Choir Breakers being blown to digital smithereens and rendering Asarar and Otto temporarily deaf, most of the others just slightly disoriented…except for Jelly who is almost comatose from the explosions.

Kira hunts down each of the Choir Breakers who were involved in the attack, planting C4 and blowing them up when the time comes; an odd giddiness in her attitude denoting that she may enjoy blowing things up. By the time they return to the Club, Asarar and Otto have regained their sense of hearing though Jelly is still traumatized; most of the crew heading off to rest, try out wedding dresses or consider the shifting changes in their defacto leader’s personality.

Verse 4, S.4 Session 82: The Royal Mark Part 1

Magi Tower - 1.17.5991
The past two weeks have been quiet for the members of Unit 6, the pregnancies of both Celes and Miyuki proceeding without alarm or attrition from the Hapian Holy Knights. Mykel stands watch over the communications orb and transportation platform, Alita reading a book nearby as the usual activities of the rest continue; Liana caring for a bed-ridden Celes, Karen studying black magic in the library, Sasha and Ceilia doing their own reading or preparations, and Vyvy and Kalam continuing their work with summoning.

During this time, the Hapian Empress contacts the tower and requests to speak with Sasha alone; Mykel being asked silently to stay close by the door. With nobody visible to the Empress except for Sasha, an offer is made; the Empress will restore the Royal Mark to Sasha’s mother in return for bringing Celes’s child and handing it over to the Empress. While it is slightly tempting for Sasha, she maintains her position; the Empress saying that they have 24 hours to make their decision.

It is noticed however, that the Magi are more reclusive than usual; keeping to themselves and working on unknown projects more, and giving an ‘evil eye’ to Karen. Delgi also notes that things seem to be odd and is distracted by it. As Sasha begins to feel like she’s losing control of the situation at the Tower, she decides to become Delgi’s Magi Master; an undertaking that Delgi is reluctant to accept unless Sasha can withstand three attacks from Delgi. Without holding back, Delgi unleashes everything she can muster against Sasha but at the end Sasha is still standing without injury (albeit wearing armor that is holy of a different nature).

Before they can link completely, Kito brings a young inexperienced magus before Sasha, Alita, Ceilia and Delgi to inform them that the young girls friends have gone missing after being summoned to an experiment room in the basement of the tower. When they investigate the room they are surprised to find several unconscious Magi along with others who are walking and working in an apparent daze summoning and drawing upon Light Spirits. At the same time, Mykel is assaulted from behind in the Communication Room and knocked unconscious; which Alita is immediately aware of due to the link between Dragoon and Partner.

Swiftly dealing with the Magi below, they race upstairs only to find the way blocked by Hapian Holy Knights…and Liana, bearing red glowing eyes as if controlled by Aska herself, carrying Celes towards the teleportation unit. A swift battle ensues, the members of Unit 6 that are able to fight along with Kalam, fight their way into the room and prevent Liana and Celes from activating the portal and leaving. Aska, seeing her knights on the losing side pulls them in mass from the building. As preparations are quickly made by the members to leave via the portal unit and seek the promised sanctuary in the Daemon Realm, the tower quickly loses power…other magi seem to be working for the ‘Light’ and trying to keep them there.

Verse 5, S.5 Session 83: The Royal Mark Part 2

Magi Tower - 1.17.5991
The tower is under siege, from within numerous Magi have summoned lesser Light Spirits into the area to allow Aska to have influence and dozens of Holy Knights attempted to take Celes by force while Aska controlled Liana. The knights have been thwarted however, a number of their members slain; and the Magi have run off into the subterranean tunnels carrying with them the Tower’s power orbs.

With the tower quickly chilling due to a blizzard outside, the members of Unit 6 are faced with an even greater problem; Celes and Liana’s baby wants to come forth…now. Vyvy calls for Salamander to assist, but being in an icy domain seems to weaken the Great Spirit. As members tackle various tasks such as building fires, getting rid of the Light Spirits in the Tower, and even sorting through some of the neutral Magi remaining; Miyuki arrives to oversee the situation, and quickly decides that their best course of action is to retreat underground to a prepared ‘nest’ where they will be insulated from the cold and Celes can give birth safely. Aska continues to plead, through Kalam who is still tied up, for access in order to mark the baby before it’s born; an offer that is soundly refused by all present. As they start down, Sasha and Karen begin dismantling the communications and teleportation control pedestal, so that it cannot be used in the interim; several components disappearing into Sasha’s cleavage.

When they arrive they quickly secure the cavern and settle Celes in for the birth; while Salamander bondages an unconscious and naked Kalam. Alarm is raised when it’s observed that Celes is bleeding profusely and the pooling blood seems to take on the form of a mark, the air becoming more on edge when it’s seen that Celes, Liana and even Sasha herself are beginning to lose the red coloring from their eyes. Mykel voices the question of whether it could prove harmful, and there’s several glares directed at him; Sasha however divulges quietly that her mother went insane when her mark was removed. Before they can consider anything else, Rain arrives in the tunnels; hurried due to the broken transmission sent to the Daemon Capital.

As they consider the options of keeping Aska away, Rain reveals the way for Shade to return when she notes that with Vyvy positioned next to Celes it will temporarily confuse Aska’s perceptions. The reason for this is from the frequent connections Vyvy had with Shade and that there is a part of Shade left in Vyvy. The birthing continues, and both Alita and Talia are forced to use healing spells to keep Celes going; but the baby finally arrives, a beautiful baby girl who is quickly cleaned, bundled against the cold, and placed in her mothers’ arms...the name Selena being given to her.

The Academy - 1.18.5991
Unit 6 has returned to the Academy, Celes resting with Selena; while the members go before Shion to deliver their report of everything that had happened. It is agreed that Vyvy should remain at the Academy for her own protection until Shade can be restored, and Celsius is asked to relay best wishes to Vyvy, but instead the Amazonian Queen is brought to the Academy for an unplanned visit. As they finish up, Isis enters the room with an astonished look on her face; having just left Miyuki after delivering their own new litter. As the members return to the Unit Quarters, news and letters await them; Mykel having to snag his out of Karen’s hands before she reads it, and Alita getting a Free Hotspring usage.

Verse 6, S.6 Session 84: Shape Shifters

Following 1.17.5991

Saorise, fascinated by the spirit egg, and wanting to help Erica, activates the spirit egg, and Yuki, not thinking to tell her that Erica put the egg away because she was not wanting to use it, leads to Yulindhe the spirit being born. Yulindhe sticks to Saoirse, thinking of her like a mother, and when Erica learns what Saoirse did, turns her back on her and ignores her, leading to Saoirse to move down to the lower levels, leaving Yuki to try to figure out how to patch things up between the two. As the ship arrives at the Ske'ral planet, the group searches for the next shard, but they quickly learn that many of their crew has been replaced by the Ske'ral after they manage to find it and begin to leave. This leads to a hostile take over as they begin to leave.

Yulindhe, who has bonded with Saoirse and can no longer bond with the ship, has made a new spirit egg, in the hopes of appeasing Erica, who seems to resent the young spirit, attempts to learn who the shape shifters are, and is injured at one point. Part of the ship and crew is injured before they manage to take all of the hostile invaders out and they soon learn that the reason for the invasion is due to a bounty on their head by some of the Corporations back on Kumen.

Verse 7, S.7 Session 85: The Hit

1.17.5991
The Club - Kumen
It’s been two weeks since the failed foray into the Net, and the Tech Crew has been laying low; however the time has not been wasted, Max and Luci have been planning their wedding, Ymir has found a ‘cure’ for the Fauna Heat which unfortunately has the side effect of heightening the animal features in the person. As the crew converses in the bar, Ortora makes casual observations about the area being overwhelmingly full of prostitutes, Ymir returning with recently purchased ‘panties’ or so she claims, and a Fluffy who is sent to a bath in a boiling water after licking Ortora’s leg.

Asarar finally calls the crew together for a briefing, however her eyes are lacking their glow denoting that this is the more sensual and emotional Asarar; and proceeds to outline the need to track down and eliminate the final member of the group who had assaulted them in the Net. While considering options there’s commentary that leaves Asarar nervous, due to Jelly’s speech and the odd choice of words, when it’s guessed that there’s a want to make a sex robot that looks identical to Asarar. The plan is finally decided, to draw out the Runner by using Asarar as bait. Before they leave there’s questions regarding who should make contact and just how they would expect to neutralize the last Runner. There are suggestions ranging from explosives to armed remote controlled drones.

Asarar and Kira, who has accompanied Asarar to make the bait more appealing, meet up with the contact in Quad 6; however the assistant in the shop is different, and the Contact seems more nervous than usual. With the majority of the crew hidden and observing from afar, there are no threatening actions taken, however the Contact leaves a subtle message for Asarar along with a location. A nearby burned out warehouse that hasn’t had an updated layout done, making it difficult to identify where the rogue Runner may be and obvious that this is a trap for Asarar and Kira.

Upon arriving at the warehouse Chelsea locates and points out several sets of tripwires attached to explosives, while both Wolfe and Max key in on the scents of two individuals. While they consider options and try to locate the two, Jelly and Luci start trying to get the Tech Crew out of the open space and under cover in case there’s a sniper; Jelly and Kira pulling on Asarar and saving her life as a bullet impacts the ground a split second after she’s moved. Luci immediately moving into a protector / sentinel mode and absorbing shots at fellows; Chelsea utilizes her nimbleness and cat-burglar skills to traverse the warehouse space quickly, striking at the Runner and his spotter.

With the Runner dead, the Tech Crew returns to the Club to rest up; Asarar talking with Kira about the changes between the two hers and how she’s afraid of there being conflict between the two sides. Asarar it seems is coming to a crossroads in how she views and deals with her affairs, losing parts of herself to the ‘other her’ and using the job as a way to prove to herself that she can still do it.

Verse 8, M.1:

Following the events of Aska, Sasha begins to look into it more with Rain and the vampire uses unique techniques with the young princess privately to help bring about her memories. Sasha begins to learn about her young past living in the castle and that Aska played with her and Celes as they were kids, calling them her 'hope'. She learned how her mother and aunt fought and slowly corrupted the connection with Aska, as well as other horrible things, until they fought each other and her aunt, the current Empress, mind slew her aunt into regression.

She calls Aska for a talk and it seems Aska is struggling to talk, and she mentions how she formed the pact long ago to help control herself, and that she hoped the young children would right the path that had been run off course by the corrupted aunts. And that now Eve had renewed the pact. Aska soon is called back away, likely by Eve.

Verse 9, S.8 Session 86: Remnants Part I

Geyze - The Academy - 1.29.5991
Commodus has returned home to the Legion leaving the team low on manpower, but this doesn’t prevent the missions from coming in; Shion still acting as the Headmistress updates the remaining Unit Members, the means of returning Shade are dubious, and the Hapian Holy Knights are running rampant enforcing their own ideal of ‘justice’. Before they try to limit the actions of the Holy Order, the Unit is to be dispatched to a town on the border between the Hapian and Amazon kingdoms where the body of the Rogue Magi Leader has been found dead. Vyvy temporarily rejoins the team to assist, taking a break from her Spirit Training with Kalam. Miyuki takes the opportunity to show off the new kittens.

Open Space - The Aquarius
With the recent skirmish on the Shapeshifter Homeworld, and recovery of another Centerpoint shard, the crew is receiving an update from Sen before they make a decision on their next course; to other known planets in the Crytok Empire or into uncharted space where they may encounter new races. It is evident however that there is a rift developing between Saoirse and Erica.

Kumen - The Club
As members of the crew relax and muse what the next job will be, a corporation board member is seen in the club flirting with the various fauna and aurit girls there; Asarar decides that it’s a perfect opportunity to get a bug planted for intel gathering purposes. In an attempt to not solicit suspicion, Riki and one of the phiglettes are tasked with the plant; no sooner do they start to approach before the Bio-Tech Board Member grabs at his chest and dies in the midst of a crowded dance floor. Asarar, Kira and crew quickly trying to ascertain whether this was murder or extremely bad luck when a natural death has occurred…before calling the police and playing it ‘by the book’.

Geyze - Amazon / Hapian Border
Unit 6 arrives at the border town to find several Amazonian Guards already present and initially warning them away, then their commander speaks up; Gwen, apparently freed from sharing bodies with his sister, is in charge and welcomes the members of Unit 6. As the various members compare notes and examine the body, Undine arrives to transport it to a safer location; Undine however compares the body to a puppet that has had its strings cut, and Alita and Sasha suggest that perhaps the soul of the Rogue Magi was transferred into another body seeing as his had been left crippled due to torture at the hands of Legionaire guestioners. With the body moved, the unit engages Salamander to return them to the Academy.

Kumen - The Club
With the dead board member come police...and questions to answer. The Chief Investigator, William Tell, has arrived and started poking around, asking the witnesses and crewmembers about the incident; first suspicions falling upon Riki due to her approaching him, however a phone call that comes into Tell leaves little to reason to doubt that there is more going on. All of the police being ordered out, the body to be taken to a morgue; Tell informs Asarar that this wasn’t the only death to occur, fifteen other Corporate Exec’s and Board Members suffered a similar death. There’s also been a message sent to the local news agencies, claiming responsibility and cause for this on the recent Geyze / Kumen relations; this is retaliation on behalf of the spirits, and the spirit names of those responsible are being used to kill.

Open Space - The Aquarius
As the ship moves towards uncharted space, alarms start going off; news from Kumen reaching the Aquarius and telling them of the deaths of the Corporate Members. Fear quickly grips the bridge crew, seeing as the Aquarius is blamed for some of tense relations; Yuki suggesting to sever all communications with Kumen before an attempt is made on Erica’s life since she is the Captain. Airym tries to inform Sen of the decision to cut communications, however there is no response; Yuki and several others fearing that Sen may have been targeted as well. Yulindhe reveals that the ‘spirit names’ are something that she as a spirit can see written in each person’s heart.

Verse 10, S.9 Session 87: Remnants Part II

1.29.5991
Geyze - The Academy
Unit 6 has returned from investigating the dead body of the Rogue Magi, most of the team reporting to Shion while Vyvy relaxes with Kalam. After relaying their findings, Sasha, Alita and Ceilia voice their concerns; that the Rogue Magi transferred his consciousness to another body and could pose a threat wherever (s)he goes. This is interrupted by a call coming in for Shion from Yuki, and almost immediately Shion is on alert; asking Liana to summon Celsius and bring Kalam and Vyvy's quickly as possible. Celsius head off quickly to do so while Shion continues to question and conjecture about the Rogue Magi absently queing up a video from Kumen’s news channels; when she returns, she brings not only Kalam and Vyvy but also Gwen.

With everybody present Shion reveals the clip, showing the details about the supposed True Name Killer; this brings about several new questions from almost everybody present. Kalam admonishing the term ‘true name’ and refers simply to Spirit Names, several members of the unit expressing questions that seem to question the how of this occurring when supposedly Kumen has no spirits. Before tempers can be raised over the course of the discussion and the seeming simple accusations, Shion calls the meeting to an end and sends everyone off to get some rest. As the Unit returns to their quarters they observe several dozen potential students lined up and applying to the respective Tamae’s, Alita deciding to pass along a picture of the expected new host of the Rogue Magi’s consciousness to them and start keeping an eye on potential suspects.

1.30.5991
Kumen - The Club
Asarar and the Tech Group have been looking into the deaths of the Corporate Executives but to no real end in sight; deciding that the best use of their time is likely to search for the shards Yuki had asked them to look for, noting that there are three locations Yuki had passed along. Macross , Net-Ron and the Pleasure City. Cat-nip and kitty’s are mentioned as everyone gets ready to go talk with Sen about arranging access for them.

When they arrive at CoreSec HQ, they’re surprised by the amount of destruction that has swept through the Presidents’ floor; Sen explaining that she single-handedly dealt with the attackers as Ylva loads up a healing round to help with some injuries. Asarar informs the President why they’re there and Sen retrieves the paperwork, Asarar hinting at Max and Luci’s wedding being a suitable cover for them.

Geyze - The Academy
With the new day, Unit 6 contemplates what to do about the Rogue Magi if in fact he infiltrates the Academy under anonymity; how to look into the prospective students while not arising suspicion themselves, that they should expect about a month of relative quiet before the Rogue Magi (if he has infiltrated the Academy) launches any large scale attacks. Karen arriving and dropping off notes about one of the new students, stating that she got it by saying she worked for the Academy News. Gwen grumbling about eventually ending up in it at some point when its suggested that they may have to create an actual school newspaper just to legitimize the information gathered by the Daemoness.
